LAHORE, Pakistan (AP): The Digital Pakistan 2021 Policy is being developed by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

The policy would also lay the groundwork for the creation of a comprehensive digital ecosystem with advanced ideas and components for the fast delivery of next-generation digital services, applications, and content.

It will function as a demand aggregator for innovative digital services as well as a data provider for value-added services and applications.

Syed Junaid Imam, Member IT of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications, opened the Digital Pakistan Policy 2021 Roundtable Sessions in Lahore on Wednesday.

Syed Amin Ul Haque, the Federal Minister for Information Technology, said in his message to the participants, “Pakistan is on the brink of the digital revolution as we see progress happening in the country on a daily basis.” The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications sees digital transformation as a means of empowering people and bringing wealth to underserved areas of society. We believe that, in order to seize this vast opportunity, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications will bring all stakeholders on board for the Digital Pakistan Policy 2021, whether they are from the private sector, international investors, or other government policy arms.”

Consultations with all relevant stakeholders will also be held in Karachi and Islamabad, with a wide cross-section of Pakistan’s ICT industry expected to attend.

An all-inclusive approach is being used to implement the Digital Pakistan Policy 2021. The development of the digital policy is a significant step forward because it aims to address the bottlenecks that hinder Pakistan from achieving higher levels of ICT adoption.

In his message, Secretary of State for Information Technology Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui said, “The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications is the national policy leader when it comes to digital transformation efforts.” We are revising the Digital Pakistan Policy 2018 to re-evaluate and re-align ourselves for the right IT growth direction in the country by involving all business and academia partners. To ensure an inclusive policy development process, we look forward to receiving valuable feedback from all stakeholders.”

“Digital Pakistan is for citizen empowerment and economic prosperity of Pakistan,” said Syed Junaid Imam, Member IT of the Ministry of IT and Telecom, in his opening remarks. Digital Pakistan is for all Pakistanis, not just those in the ICT industry. Digital Pakistan’s vision includes providing access to information, developing skills, fostering innovation and enterprise, supporting IT and tech companies for export growth, and facilitating financial inclusion and e-commerce. Digital transformation requires ensuring cyberspace privacy and security, as well as public-private partnerships. We at the Ministry of Information Technology are firm believers in inclusive decision-making and the development of policies that facilitate business.”
