Following the passage of the Morrill Act in 1862, Purdue University was established in 1869. A local businessman named John Purdue gave generously by donating $150,000 to start the institution, which made it possible.

Tippecanoe County contributed $50,000 to the project, and 100 acres of local land were kindly donated for the new institution by locals. The university was given the name “Purdue” by the Indiana State Legislature in honor of its most notable sponsor. On September 16, 1874, the first day of classes, there were 39 students and six faculty members present.

At the moment, Purdue University is home to almost 41,000 diverse students, including both undergraduate (75%) and graduate (23%) students.
