Inauguration:
On August 14, 2024, CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif officially launched the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program. This initiative is designed to provide affordable housing to low-income families, including workers and laborers, with the goal of empowering them to become homeowners.
CM’s Vision:
The program is focused on tackling the housing crisis in Pakistan by offering subsidized housing units, easy installment plans, and a simplified application process. Eligible beneficiaries will have the opportunity to purchase their own homes, gaining the security and dignity that homeownership brings.
Unique Features:
The housing designs for the program will be developed through a collaboration between the Government of Punjab and the Pakistan Council for Architects and Town Planners. The homes will also be equipped with essential amenities such as water, electricity, and sanitation.
Implementation:
The “CM Punjab Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Housing Scheme” aims to construct over 3,000 homes in each district, ensuring fair distribution of resources. The initial focus will be on five key cities: Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Rawalpindi. In Lahore, the first phase will see the construction of 5,000 homes near Raiwind Road.
Affordability:
The scheme is designed to be highly affordable. Each apartment is priced at Rs. 1.5 million, with the government providing a 60% subsidy. This means that beneficiaries only need to pay 40% of the total cost. The remaining amount can be paid in easy monthly installments of Rs. 26,000 over five years, making homeownership accessible to families with modest incomes.
Accommodation:
To streamline the application process, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has developed a dedicated online portal for the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” project. This platform allows applicants to register, track, and manage their applications conveniently.
Benefits:
The “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program offers numerous advantages, including affordable housing solutions, opportunities for homeownership, and the provision of permanent residences. It also contributes to socio-economic development, enhances living standards, and helps reduce homelessness.
