Punjab Reveals New Plan for Grade 8 Board Examinations

The Punjab School Education Department has finalized a new policy for Grade 8 board examinations, which will take effect from the next academic year. According to a report from a private news channel, these exams will be compulsory only for students enrolled in government schools across the province.

For private schools, participation in the Grade 8 board exams will remain optional, allowing them to decide whether their students should appear. The entire examination process will be managed and supervised by the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training, and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) to ensure transparency and standardization.

Officials from the department have stated that a comprehensive examination framework will be shared within the next 20 days. This plan will outline the complete subject list, marks allocation for each paper, and the process for secure distribution of question papers to designated examination centers.

As per initial scheduling, the Grade 8 board examinations are expected to take place between February and March 2026.

In addition, the Punjab government is working on a performance-based reward system for schools. Institutions that achieve strong academic results may receive special recognition or incentives, while those with consistently low performance could face administrative measures aimed at improving their standards.
