Do you want to force a Roku TV or streaming stick update? Although your device checks for updates in the background, a manual upgrade may be required in some cases, such as when streaming issues develop. This is how you do it.
Force an Update on Roku Smart TV or Streaming Stick
Check to see if your device is connected to the internet by Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Then, using the house-shaped button on your Roku remote, go to your device’s home screen. Navigate to Settings > System > System Update from the left-hand navigation menu.

Here you’ll find information about your current installed version as well as other technical details. To manually check for any available updates, select “Check Now.”
If an update is available, a popup will appear asking if you want to install it now or later. Select “Update Now” if you’re ready to move on.
Your update is about to begin. This may take some time depending on your internet connection. Your device will reboot once it’s finished, and the reboot may take a while because the update takes time to fully install.
