You may now have new WhatsApp chats expire after 90 days by default.

WhatsApp released the disappearing messages function in November, which automatically deletes chats after seven days. After a year, it has raised the time limit, allowing you to set auto-deletion for messages after 24 hours or 90 days, in addition to the previous one-week choice.

Not only that, but WhatsApp users will now be able to turn on the disappearing messages function by default for all new individual chats. It had to be enabled manually previously. Furthermore, if you’ve enabled default disappearing messages, the app will display a note in your conversations informing users of the same, so they know it’s not personal.

This new feature is optional, and WhatsApp claims that it will have no impact on your existing conversations. Select the duration in WhatsApp’s Settings > Account > Privacy > Default message timer menu on iPhone and Android devices to enable it.
