Arshad Nadeem’s Training in South Africa Delayed Due to Visa Issues

Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s star javelin thrower, has experienced yet another setback since he is unable to begin his preparations for the next tournaments. Arshad was supposed to start his training program in South Africa, but he has yet to acquire his visa, according to Dawn.

Arshad and his junior colleague Mohammad Yasir were scheduled to fly to South Africa to train with Perseus Liebenberg at Northwest University Potchefstroom in preparation for the upcoming major tournaments. Their visas have been in the works for over a month, and no date has been set for when they would be delivered.

In the coming months, the renowned javelin thrower will compete in four big events. The World Athletics Championships will be held in the United States from July 15 to 24, followed by the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham (July 28 to August 8). The Islamic Solidarity Games will take place in Turkey from August 9 to 18 while the 2022 Asian Games will take place in China from September 10 to 25.

Arshad and Yasir’s flight to South Africa has been planned, according to retired Major General Mohammad Akram Sahi, President of Pakistan’s Athletics Federation, but they are unsure how long the visa process will take.”We had filed visa applications for the two sportsmen through an authorized visa application center in Lahore on January 7,” he said. However, we do not know when these will be endorsed.

The scenario is concerning because we have made advance accommodation reservations for the athletes [in Potchefstroom], for which we have paid Rs. 2.5 million. We have been advised that we may even lose that sum if we continue unable to submit our athletes in time.”Arshad hasn’t started his training yet. His training had previously been hampered by the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), as he was not permitted to train in the Punjab stadium. His prospects of winning a medal for Pakistan in these major games will be further hampered by the latest situation.
