On Tuesday, Islamabad United will face the undefeated Multan Sultans in the eighth match of the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) season seven. The match will be held at Karachi’s historic National Stadium.
Multan Sultans, the defending champions, have proven unbeatable in this edition as well. So far in the competition, they’ve won all three games they’ve played. Their confidence will be boosted even more after a stunning triumph against the Quetta Gladiators last night.
Multan’s advantage is that they do not rely on their international players to perform. Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood, Khushdil Shah, and Sohaib Maqsood, among their local players, have all made significant contributions.
The only cause for concern for ‘Junoobies’ is Shahnawaz Dahani’s appearance. The Larkana-born fast bowler, who finished PSL 6 with the most wickets, is yet to make an impact. It will be intriguing to watch if Rizwan plays him tonight against Islamabad’s lethal batting order or rests him.
Islamabad United, on the other hand, is largely reliant on their top line, which consists entirely of international players: Paul Stirling, Alex Hales, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. They’ve all been in constant contact. Their ability to destroy Peshawar Zalmi’s bowling in the last game speaks for itself.
Azam Khan and Asif Ali are also on United’s roster. They’re both capable of hitting sixes at will. With the bat, Faheem Ashraf and Shadab Khan are very useful.
Hasan Ali, Mohammad Wasim Junior, and Marchant de Lange make up their pace battery, which is backed up by spinners Shadab Khan and Mubasir Khan.

Alex Hales and Paul Stirling, the Islamabad openers, are in excellent form. The other day, they made a joke of Peshawar Zalmi bowlers by chasing down the 169-run total with 9 wickets and with five overs to spare. They’re anticipated to put up a similar performance tonight.
Multan’s opener Shan Masood has re-established himself as a capable T20 opener, and Multan will be hoping that he can keep up his good form throughout the tournament.
Shan’s 58-ball 88 gave Sultans a battling total against Quetta Gladiators Friday night. Multan’s early success in the event has been aided by his excellent form, which he shares with Rizwan at the top of the list.
